Viral video clips appeared to show Jones flashing his middle finger at Jets fans, but Jones insists he was actually giving a thumbs-up to Dallas supporters present at the game as his team secured a decisive win.
“That was unfortunate. That was kind of an interaction with our fans out in front of us,” Jones explained during a radio appearance. “There was a swarm of Dallas supporters—not Jets fans, Cowboys fans. The entire stadium was filled with excitement for the Cowboys.”
He further clarified that the gesture was completely accidental, happening amid the elation following the team’s final touchdown. “I just put up the wrong finger,” he remarked. “It was accidentally done. This is sincere. If you want to call it accidental, you can. However, it got resolved pretty quick.”

This is not the initial instance an NFL owner has been penalized for inappropriate behavior. Recent examples include:
